The city of Camarillo is taking steps that could discourage porn producers from filming in city limits.
Ventura County has seen an uptick in adult film production since voters in Los Angeles voted for stricter rules governing porn shoots in 2012.
Now, Camarillo is hoping government there can similarly discourage adult film makers.
“We certainly didn’t want to be the recipients of that industry,” Mayor Bill Little told the Camarillo Acorn.
“The council established a moratorium on issuing any newuse, conditional-use, specialevent or film permits to produce adult films in March 2013. That moratorium will expire later this month.
With that in mind, Little said, the council adopted a permanent ordinance during its regular meeting on Wednesday to regulate the production of adult films in the city.
The council discussed the topic at length when it approved a 45-day urgency ordinance, also meant to regulate adult films, and took the first step to adopt the permanent ordinance last month.
Little likened the urgency ordinance to an insurance policy, as it allows the city to ward off adult filmmakers before the permanent ordinance, which required a preliminary reading and a majority vote to be approved, goes into effect, 30 days after its adoption.
