The dream of homeownership is becoming ever more elusive in California. But before you throw in the towel and move and out of state, consider this list.
Financial technology site SmartAsset just ranked the Golden State’s most affordable cities for housing. It shows there are still plenty of decent places to buy a home and settle down without signing away your future.
SmartAsset looked at a few different factors when compiling the list. These include average closing costs; property taxes; annual homeowner’s insurance; average mortgage payment; and median income. It then developed an affordability index for each city.
These are the 10 most affordable cities in California, according to the site:
1 California City 58.31 2 Homeland 49.99 3 Imperial 49.91 4 Rosamond 45.91 5 Salton City 43.42 6 Barstow 42.66 7 Garden Acres 42.15 8 Bret Harte 42.09 9 Dos Palos 41.61 10 Ridgecrest 41.31Data is compiled and reported by SmartAsset.
