Carmel-by-the-Sea is one of California’s quirkiest and most charming cities, but it may soon have a new claim to fame. Carmel is considering becoming the first California city to effectively ban Pickleball.
The City Council is currently weighing a permanent ban on the sport at Forest Hill Park — the only viable park with a Pickleball court. Neighbors say the game is too noisy, and the constant paddling sound has become a nuisance for nearby homes.
City leaders already approved a temporary ban last month. On November 4, they voted to extend it and draft an ordinance that would permanently prohibit Pickleball at Forest Hill.
Pickleball fans are furious. They’ll get a chance to voice their frustrations at two upcoming meetings on the proposed ordinance.
