Longtime Carpinteria City Manager Dave Durflinger will retire by the end of 2023, the city has announced. Durflinger notified staff of his decision last week. Durflinger said he wanted to give the city plenty of time to plan a smooth transition.

Durflinger has held the top administrator's post since 2001. He has worked for the city even longer —  24 years to be exact.

“Dave has not only provided his skills, intelligence and vast knowledge of the Carpinteria on a 24/7 basis for the City but he is also a resident and valued member of the community,” said Carpinteria Mayor Al Clark “Dave has established a strong, stable and consistent government for over 20 years. Dave is irreplaceable.”

Durflinger called it an honor and privilege to have served the Santa Barbara County community for so long.

“Any success that I have had I owe to the team—a team made up of dedicated staff members, City Council leaders and involved community members,” he added.
