State of the city speeches aren’t usually known for their fanfare, but Banning’s last was quite the exception. After a 30-minute update on the city’s goals and accomplishments from Mayor George Moyer, guests were invited to eat chips, hotdogs, and cookies while playing free games at the Museum of Pinball.
The museum, which is near Banning’s airport, features over 800 pinball machines. It isn’t clear what genius decided to hold the Oct. 11 state of the city speech there but attendees were surely appreciative.
Around 65 people were there to hear the mayor speak and get their game on. After walking them through the ins and outs of the city’s (balanced) budget, increased sales and hotel tax revenues, and an impending review of water rates, Moyer himself took a turn on the Indiana Jones pinball machine.
If only all state of the city speeches were that fun.
