The City of Chowchilla has reached an agreement with City Administrator Mark Lewis, who resigned earlier this week.
The Merced Sun Star reports, “On administrative leave since Sept. 2, Lewis agreed to part with a nine-month, $122,525 severance package, according to Laura Crane, an attorney for the city. The council agreed unanimously on the decision during the Tuesday meeting.
Lewis had been placed on administrative leave amid rumors that he was linked to two complaints filed in August against the city of Chowchilla.
The complaints, one from a former female employee and one from a current female employee, state that each worker felt “fear, emotional distress and anxiety over the potential loss of the job while working under Lewis’ supervision, among other claims,” according to the Sun Star report.
Lewis was named in both complaints. The council also voted to formally reject those complaints during the closed session Tuesday.
“Police Chief Jay Varney will continue to act as top cop and top city administrative official in the interim, Walker said, adding that the City Council does not intend to go long without hiring an interim city administrator.”
