The City of Citrus Heights is currently without a mayor, leaving city leaders scrambling to fill a vacuum.
Bret Daniels was the mayor until last week when he abruptly resigned and moved to Corbin, Kentucky. A moving van was outside his home Thursday morning and, by Saturday, he was gone.
Daniels told CBS News that “evilness has permeated the state legislature." He pointed specifically to a new state law prohibiting school districts from notifying parents if their child starts identifying as another gender.
“It's sad, but we've become disgusted with California politics," Daniels said. "I hope they hear about it enough."
The sudden vacancy means important issues will have to be delayed until after the election, said Councilmember Tim Schaefer.
