Families and caregivers for people with autism, Alzheimer’s, and other cognitive conditions received vital resources at a community event hosted by the City of Industry and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Mental Evaluation Team (LASD MET) this week.
The event, “LET’S T.E.A.M. UP! (Together for Education, Awareness, and Mental Wellness),” took place Wednesday, April 2 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Industry Hills Expo Center Pavilion. Mental health professionals and local leaders were invited to participate in workshops while exploring various booths hosted by regional service providers.
The workshops were staffed by experts from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the Alzheimer’s Association – California Southland Chapter, L.A. Found, and Autism Interaction Solutions. Topics included wandering prevention, caregiver support, and mental health resources for loved ones and caregivers.
Local first responders were also on site to connect with members of the community and share strategies to enhance safety.
