Woodland is the latest California city to have its own tank.
More accurately, the city has acquired a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, or MRAP -- a bullet and bomb proof vehicle designed for a war zone that will soon be on the streets of Woodland.
So, for all of you plotting to hide landmines in outer Yolo County, know that law enforcement is on the case.
Local law enforcement officials defended the vehicle purchase, and dismissed suggestions that it was overkill.
“It’s a safety tool. It’s like me wearing a bullet proof vest, just a lot bigger,” Sergeant Brett Hancock told FOX40.
Apparently, size matters.
In October, the City Council in neighboring Davis voted to remove the MRAP from the police department’s arsenal.
Hancock says the Woodland PD owning an armored vehicle is nothing new.Woodland police already have a 1985 brigadier armored truck. In the long run, Hancock said the MRAP will save the city money.
“It’s going to reduce the city’s cost and maintenance cost,” Hancock told FOX40.
