Corona City Councilman Dick Haley has abruptly resigned after suffering a serious fall that resulted in a brain hemorrhage two weeks ago.
“After discussions with and the advice of two neurologists, my family physician and my family, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot serve the City of Corona and am resigning my position as City Councilman immediately,” Haley said in a press release dated Oct. 4.
Haley was first elected to the Corona City Council in 2012, but has been with the city in some capacity for nearly two decades. He had previously served as the city’s treasurer. He is a distinguished veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the Finance, Legislation & Economic Development Committee, and represents Corona at the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA).
The City Council will discuss plans to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on Oct. 11. It has 60 days from the date of Haley’s resignation to fill the seat or to call a special election. Haley’s replacement would hold the seat through November 2020.
