Coronado has added the consumption of marijuana and other “controlled substances” to its social host ordinance that penalizes adults who allow minors to consume alcohol on their premises.
“We have had some problems arise with some parties here in Coronado, not all of which involved Coronado residents. We are a resort community with visitors from all over,” said City Manager Blair King in an email to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The District Attorney’s Office suggested that an updated ordinance could help with prosecutions.”
Coronado joins a number of other jurisdictions that have updated their social host ordinances to include marijuana in the wake of legalization. San Diego County did so in May.
Those “having immediate control of a residence or premises” who are found in violation of Coronado’s ordinance face a fine of up to $1,000 fine and/or up to six months in jail.
