The Los Angeles Police Department has lost its first employee to the coronavirus. A 39-year-old senior detention officer named Erica McAdoo passed away last week. Another 287 LAPD employees are in quarantine after exposure to the virus.
The pandemic is hitting the city’s fire personnel as well. The LAFD announced this week that 14 firefighters at Station 80 near LAX have tested positive for COVID-19. They are either asymptotic or experiencing mild symptoms.
Coronavirus infections are surging across California. The state added 9,500 cases on Tuesday — the greatest single-day high on record. Mayor Eric Garcetti has said the city could be forced to lock down again if things get any worse.
