As you may have heard, San Francisco Animal Control officers captured a 77-pound mountain lion that was roaming through the wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood on Tuesday morning.
But that’s not the only noteworthy wildlife encounter in recent days. An ABC Bay Area reporter who was covering the mountain lion’s capture had a coyote wander through her live shot on Tuesday. See the incredible video here.
Earlier this month, another coyote was seen swimming through the San Francisco Bay from Aquatic Park to Alcatraz Island. He’s believed to have made it across safely and has been spotted on the island, which is home to the famous prison attraction.
The rash of wildlife sightings highlight a growing trend. As urban development expands and natural habitats shrink, wild animals are increasingly adapting to life in major cities like San Francisco — and interacting more frequently with the public.
