Culver City officials have announced they’ll use a combination of cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) to crack down on commuters who double park in city bus lanes.
It’s common to see drivers using the bus lanes for quick drop-offs and pick-ups. Soon, that transgression will incur a warning ticket, with a second violation costing $293.
Culver City is working with San Francisco-based Hayden AI, which developed similar technology for New York City. The company says New York’s bus system is now 5% faster and collisions have decreased by more than 30%.
AI will help the Culver City Police Department determine which photographs contain actions worthy of a ticket. However, a human officer will review the information before a citation is sent in the mail.
