Cupertino has promoted Interim City Manager Tina Kapoor to the permanent position. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday in favor of Kapoor’s promotion.
Kapoor will earn an annual base salary of $327,000. According to the San Jose Spotlight, after benefits and retirement contributions, the total will equal $459,675 per year.
“I’m hoping we’ve put a temporary halt to the revolving door,” Councilmember Sheila Mohan told the Spotlight. She was referring to the nine permanent and temporary city managers who have come and gone since 2018.
Kapoor has worked for Cupertino since October 2021. She started out as an economic development manager. In 2023, she became the city’s deputy city manager. She stepped into the interim spot after Pamela Wu was placed on leave in May. Wu later resigned as part of a settlement agreement.
