Six months after the resignation of former Cypress City Manager Peter Grant, the City Council has selected a permanent replacement. Shannon DeLong was approved by a unanimous vote Monday. She’ll make history as Cypress' first female city manager when she takes over on March 30.
“I am honored by the City Council’s trust in appointing me as city manager,” DeLong said in a news release. “Cypress benefits from strong leadership, dedicated staff and engaged residents. I am excited to build strong relationships with our community members and business owners as we work together to serve this exceptional city.”
DeLong stood out among the candidates because of her "experience, strategic insight and clear commitment to public service,” said Mayor Leo Medrano. “Her leadership marks an exciting new chapter for our city and we look forward to the energy and vision she brings to Cypress.”
She most recently served as assistant city manager for Whittier and previously held several roles in Downey.
DeLong will succeed Sean Joyce, who has served as interim city manager since September. She will earn an annual base salary of $315,000.
