The City of Davis has selected Yolo’s Assistant County Administrator Dirk Brazil as its new city manager, following a nationwide search that attracted over 80 candidates. The council voted 4-0 Monday to approve a contingent offer to Brazil with Mayor Pro Tem Robb Davis abstaining. Final approval is expected on October 21.
"My Tuesday nights will never be the same, but I'm OK with that,” Brazil said. “To take a leadership role in the city where I live is, to be honest, an incredible opportunity.”
Brazil is replacing former city manager Stephen Pinkerton, who served from September 2011 to April 2014. Pinkerton now serves as General Manager at the Incline Village General Improvement District in Nevada.
Brazil has served as assistant county administrator in Yolo for the past eight years. His lengthy resume includes time as chief deputy with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as various leadership positions within the California Legislature. He also worked for Gray Davis and then-state Assembly Member Lois Walk.
Brazil holds a bachelor of arts in political science from UC Davis and a master of arts in public policy from Claremont Graduate School. He is also an alumnus of the Executive Management Program at the University of Washington and a Coro Foundation Fellow.
