The interim city manager of Desert Hot Springs is assuming the chief executive position on a permanent basis. The city council voted Tuesday night to appoint Doria Wilms as the new city manager.
Wilms has been a steady presence in turbulent times. She has served as a temporary manager for the city twice — once in 2023 after the resignation of Luke Rainey and again this year after a family emergency forced Frank Luckino to abruptly retire.
Wilms has worked for Desert Hot Springs for nearly ten years, starting out as a city clerk in 2016 and then moving up the ranks.
“Doria’s hitting the ground running,” said Mayor Scott Matas. “She understands the issues, the departments, and the staff, who I believe respect her tremendously.”
Wilms’ annual salary will start at $242,000. It will increase next year to $253,000.
