The City of Desert Hot Springs has announced the resignation of City Manager Martin Magaña, effective July 21. No explanation was given for Magaña’s departure besides “personal reasons,” but the announcement came one day after an annual performance review during a closed session of the city council. That review and the resignation were unrelated, according to City Attorney Steve Quintanilla.
Magaña took over in 2014 after a five-year run as Community Development Director. He first came on board as acting city manager, replacing Bob Adams after the resignation of Rick Daniels.
Magaña was lauded as a "commendable, reliable and exemplary" employee in a city press release.
"He will be missed greatly by members of the City Council and his staff," the city said.
Police Chief Dale Mondary will be carrying out city manager duties while Desert Hot Springs works to find a permanent replacement. That effort has not yet begun, Mayor Scott Matas said.
