The simple question could have massive implications on the city’s drive to entice an NFL franchise to relocate to the city.
Does Albert Robles live in Carson with his parents or in the Adams-Normandie district of Los Angeles?
Robles has been the most vocal cheerleader for football in Carson lately, but his potentially ineligibility could have some interesting ramifications for football in Carson.
The day he was sworn in as Mayor, he voted to approve the ballot measure that later authorized the construction of an NFL stadium in the city. Without Robles, the council would have not have had quorum to decide on the measure.
Furthermore, officeholder’s votes normally remain legal even it is later determined they were ineligible. This is because an alternative would see massive rollbacks on policies, ordinances, permit approvals, etc.
The L.A. Times has pressed Robles for documents proving his Carson residence, but he has not yet provided them.
His wife, Sonjia Quanitte, owns the apartment building in the Adams-Normandie District and Robles’ financial disclosure statements reveal that he received between $10,000 and $100,000 from the four-unit property.
Carson City Clerk and former Mayor Jim Dear accused Robles of living outside the city in a June council meeting.
A reminder to our readers, there are two Albert Robles in Southern California politics, the other is the former treasurer of South Gate who was sentenced 10 years in prison after being convicted of 30 counts of bribery, money laundering, and depriving the electorate.
