Dublin City Manager Linda Smith has announced her resignation, effective Oct. 10. She has accepted the same position in the City of Orinda in Contra Costa County.
“I have spent a good amount of my career in Dublin, and it has been a wonderful experience,” Smith said in an email to The Independent. “I’ve been able to do so many things and been able to see them through. There just comes a time when you think you accomplished all that you can and that you can bring your skills somewhere that they really need you. That was the appeal of going to Orinda.”
Smith has worked for Dublin since 2009, and served as its top administrator for the past five years. During her tenure, the community added two new schools, a Kaiser Campus, a large R&D facility, and a new shopping center. She spearheaded the Downtown Dublin Preferred Vision plan and assisted with redevelopment of the Dublin Place Shopping Center. She also oversaw numerous capital improvement projects and helped steer the city through the tumult of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under her leadership, Dublin boasted a $120 million surplus.
“Linda has had such an incredible impact on the City of Dublin over the last 15 years,” said Mayor Michael McCorriston. “Her leadership of the team and her leadership in the community are well known. It has been my great pleasure to work with Linda over the last few years and we are a better community because of her service to our residents and our businesses. I have no doubt that Linda will continue to make an impact after leaving Dublin.”
Orinda Mayor Darlene Gee said she is excited for Smith to begin her new role there.
"Her strong background in economic development, communications, and a wide range of local government operations will serve the City and community well."
