Dublin is booming. From 2010 to 2020, the East Bay city’s population grew nearly 60%, making it the fastest growing city in California. Now — as schools across the state shutter because of low enrollment — Dublin is adding a new one.
Emerald High School, in the Dublin Unified School District, will be the first public high school to grace Alameda County in over 50 years. Construction started in September 2020 after voters approved a series of bond measures to finance the $374-million project. The school’s official opening date is Aug. 13. It will welcome 300 new sophomores and 600 freshmen. A new grade will be added every year until 2026-27.
