Cormorant Village, Minnesota’s beloved four-legged mayor Duke has passed away at the age of 13.
The fluffy, white Great Pyrenees was first elected in 2014 and served the people of Cormorant faithfully for four years before retiring in June. As mayor, he carried out many ceremonial duties, including parade attendance and serving as a goodwill ambassador for the town.
“Our beloved mayor Duke went to doggie heaven today,” read a Thursday tweet from Duke’s official Twitter page. A memorial will be held in either March or April, it said.
RIP, Mr. Mayor.
