El Monte, CA – The City of El Monte is excited to announce the arrival of retail giant, Target, scheduled for October 2024. The highly anticipated retailer will be occupying the former Sears Outlet building and two adjacent vacant retail buildings located at 3610 Peck Rd. El Monte, CA.
“This project would have not been possible without the collaboration and direction of the council who listened to the professional advice of staff and the needs of the El Monte residents,” shared Alma Martinez, El Monte City Manager. “I would like to thank Supervisor Solis for her mentorship and guidance, my economic development staff and Target along with the landlord Merlone Geier who worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition. I look forward to celebrating the grand opening next year with our residents.”
Construction of the retailer is underway, encompassing 127,879 square feet of retail space along with ample parking space for 372 vehicles. The design will feature a 3,900 square feet canopy area designated for the Drive-Up parking stalls, complemented by new landscaping. Expected tenants within the Target upon completion will include Target Optical, CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks and Ulta Beauty. Renderings of the proposed Target are attached.
“I am extremely proud of this announcement as we have been working with Target for nearly a year, and every day we get closer to seeing Target open its doors to our El Monte community,” said Jessica Ancona, El Monte Mayor.
“This is one of the new exciting projects coming to the City, as we will also see the grand opening of Chick-fil-A in 2024,” shared El Monte Mayor Pro Tem Martin Herrera. “This is a testament of El Monte’s economic growth and vitality for businesses looking to operate in our City.”
Target’s presence will contribute to the City’s economic growth by creating 110-125 full-time and part-time jobs, offering a pay range of $15 to $24 per hour. In addition, Target will generate vital sales tax revenue, which will be allocated to funding programs and services benefiting El Monte residents.
“The arrival of Target reflects our ongoing commitment to economic development which will generate revenue collected from sales and property tax,” said El Monte Councilwoman Alma Puente.
El Monte Councilwoman Victoria Martinez Muela shared, “The community asked for national brand retail opportunities and the council delivered. I look forward to the grand opening next year and giving our residents the shopping experience, they deserve.”
Target’s proposed hours of operation will be 8am to 10pm, seven days a week, ensuring convenient access for customers.
“I know our residents will be excited when they are able to visit and shop at Target, here in their community, instead of having to drive to other locations,” said El Monte Councilmember Richard Rojo. “This benefits our community as sales tax revenues stay in the City that then go towards community programs and services.”
El Monte Councilwoman Dr. Julia Ruedas shared, “I am very proud of all the work from our city manager, planning department and city staff to get this project off the ground. I look forward to providing our residents and community with diverse retail options.”
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with Target and ensure that we are a good community partner to our new tenants,” shared El Monte Councilwoman Marisol Cortez. “El Monte is open for business and we look forward to continuing to be the preferred options for businesses to expand to.”
