El Monte Assistant City Manager Alex Hamilton has been promoted to the city manager position. Hamilton was given the nod in a unanimous vote by the city council Tuesday. He will take over for Jesus Gomez who has accepted the same position in Norwalk.
Hamilton is an experienced public servant who has worked for a number of cities in California. He began his career with the U.S Army Corp of Engineers in the Environmental Resources Branch and later worked for the cities of Los Angeles, Norwalk, Glendale, Commerce, and Montebello.
As assistant city manager of El Monte, Hamilton has been overseeing implementation of the city’s Economic Development Plan which was adopted by the council in 2017. He was also instrumental in the development of El Monte’s Strategic Goals and Objectives, adopted in 2016.
Hamilton earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from California State University, Los Angeles.
