There are just over 200,000 votes left to be counted in L.A. County. But with the California Primary one week in the rearview, a portrait of the city council’s even-numbered districts is taking shape.
Former California Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian is headed for a runoff for the District 2 seat, which is being vacated by termed-out Paul Krekorian. It appears Nazarian will face off against healthcare worker and neighborhood councilmember Jillian Burgos. Nazarian leads Burgos 38% to 21%.
District 4 Councilmember Nithya Raman is just under 50% in her bid for a second term. If the remaining mail-in ballots don’t put her over the threshold, she’ll head to a November runoff with neighborhood prosecutor Ethan Weaver, who has 40% of the vote. A third candidate, Levon Baronian, received 11%.
Imelda Padilla has been elected to District 6 with 78% of the vote. You may recall she won the special election to replace Nury Martinez last year. Marqueece Harris-Dawson and John Lee were both re-elected in Districts 8 and 12.
Heather Hutt will head to a November runoff with attorney and community advocate Grace Yoo. Hutt leads with 38%. Yoo has 24%.
Last but not least, the hotly contested District 14 remains close, but will definitely result in a runoff. The current tally is as follows:
· Kevin de León (i) – 24%
· Ysabel Jurado – 24%
· Miguel Santiago – 21%
