Sacramento City Councilmember Sean Loloee is under investigation by a grand jury, according to documents filed in court by his attorneys last Wednesday. Although the nature of the investigation is unknown, Loloee’s attorneys have suggested it’s related to allegations of labor violations at Loloee’s grocery stores.
In April, the Department of Labor sued Loloee for forced labor and other violations at his businesses. In October, federal agents raided his stores and homes. The court documents filed last week said the subject matter of the grand jury investigation and the Department of Labor’s lawsuit “are largely co-extensive,” according to KCRA.
In addition to the grand jury probe, the Fair Political Practices Commission has confirmed it is also investigating Loloee. That probe was announced after the Sacramento Bee reported on several commercial properties he owns. According to the Bee, Loloee did not report rental income from the properties as required by law.
In response to the FFPC investigation, Loloee’s attorney Nicholas Sanders stated, “we are confident that this can be easily resolved.”
Loloee was fined $200 by the FPPC in June for a tardy Economic Interest filing. The embattled District 2 representative has over a year left on his city council term. He does not plan to run for re-election.
