Jay Petrek started his new position as Assistant City Manager this week after being appointed a couple weeks back.
Petrek has been with the City of Escondido for over 30 years, he started in 1984, and shows no signs of slowing down. Prior to getting the bump to Asst City Manager, he held down the role of Director of Community Development. Petrek got that position in October of last year, so he has been on the rise the last several months.
Prior to that, he also held positions which include Assistant Planning Director and Principal Planner. Along the way he has overseen and contributed to quite a few of the city’s big projects, including three General Plan updates, the city’s Downtown Specific Plan, and a Climate Action Plan.
If you still are not convinced that Mr. Petrek is not a slouch, he is also a member of the San Marcos Unified School District Board of Trustees.
In the announcement of Petrek’s appointment, Escondido City Manager Graham Mitchell spoke highly of him, saying “Jay knows and loves our community. As the author of the City’s General Plan and work on various specific plans, he has attended over seventy community meetings, getting to know the residents, businesses and culture of Escondido. Also, I believe that Jay will be a tremendous asset in overseeing the completion of the thirty major development projects that are under construction or in the planning pipeline.”
