Clay Phillips has been City Manager for 12 years.
In his letter of resignation to the City Council, Phillips said, “It has been my pleasure and my privilege to have served you, our employees and the residents of Escondido…”
Phillips landed in Escondido in 1986 when he was hired on as the Director of Finance, he became City Manager in 2003.
Prior to Escondido he worked in the Cities of Irvine and Santa Ana in financial positions.
Mayor Sam Abed voiced his appreciation for Phillips’ service to the city, saying, “Clay has been the longest tenured City Manager in Escondido’s history and a great leader for the City. His strong financial expertise and management skills steered Escondido through economic downturns to financial stability and economic growth. His contributions to make Escondido a better city are greatly appreciated.”
Phillips’ last day on the job is set for December 18. Here is hoping Santa comes through on the pension for Christmas.
