Escondido is in the market for a new city manager again.
After less than a year in the position, City Manager Graham Mitchell has announced his resignation, effective Dec. 31. City staff released a statement Friday. Graham said he made the decision after careful consideration in order to explore other professional opportunities, perhaps even outside of local government.
“Graham Mitchell has been a good city manager for the city of Escondido, and we appreciate his contributions and achievements in the past year,” Mayor Sam Abed said. “We wish him the best.”
Councilman John Masson said he was “surprised and upset” by the announcement.
Graham took over in December of last year after the retirement of longtime city manager Clay Phillips. He had held the same position in Lemon Grove for 12 years prior and had served as assistant city manager in Escondido for several months.
