Former Adelanto City Councilman Jermaine Wright was sentenced to five years in federal prison Monday for bribery and attempted arson.
In June, Wright was convicted of taking $10,000 from an FBI informant that he believed to be a cannabis business owner. In exchange, Wright promised to help the informant get his cannabis business approved in Adelanto.
Wright also solicited another undercover FBI agent to burn down his restaurant, Fat Boyz Grill, for the insurance money. According to prosecutors, he paid the undercover agent $1,500 to carry out the arson.
The five-year sentence Wright received was the minimum allowed by statute and was requested by the defense, Wright’s attorney David Kaloyanides told the Los Angeles Times.
