A member of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works, who was recently named in an FBI probe into possible corruption at City Hall, has resigned effective immediately, according to Los Angeles City Clerk Holly Wolcott.
Joel Jacinto was appointed to the five-member board by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2015. He and his wife Ave Jacinto are among 13 people named in a federal search warrant filed in November. No arrests have been made in connection with the probe.
Meantime, members of the Los Angeles City Council and the city’s Ethics Commission are considering new restrictions on developer donations to city office holders.
“Campaign finance reform, including a ban on developer donations, is something I have been fighting for since I first ran for office,” said District 4 City councilman David Ryu, who introduced a motion last week. “Democracy dies when people lose faith in their elected officials. That is the risk we face, the longer we go without addressing this problem as systemic and worthy of reform.”
