We’ve covered plenty of bizarre stories involving city officials over the years, but this one just may take the cake:
A Florida mayor, who is suspected of practicing medicine without a license, was charged with two counts of attempted homicide Thursday after shooting at deputies who were serving a search warrant at his home, police said. — NBC News
Dale Glen Massad is the mayor of Port Richey, Florida — or at least he was prior to his suspension Friday by the state’s governor. He is accused of firing two rounds at Pasco County Sheriff SWAT team officers as they approached his house Thursday morning to serve a warrant. Their presence followed a four-month investigation into allegations that Massad, who lost his medical license in 1992, was continuing to practice medicine out of his home.
Law enforcement says the Port Richey mayor is a known drug user with a history of violence. That’s not at all surprising given his mugshot.
