There are just over 1,800 billionaires living in the world today with a total combined wealth of $6.48 trillion and, according to the latest research, plenty of them still call the Big Apple home.
The national business magazine Forbes recently released its list of the top 25 cities for billionaires. Seventeen of those cities are in Asia, but New York still comes out on top with a total of 79 billionaires in its midst. It was followed by the cities of Hong Kong, Moscow, Beijing and London.
Three California cities also made the top 25. San Francisco came in at #10; Los Angeles was tied with Taipei at #14; and Palo Alto joined Geneva and Chicago at #25.
Bill Gates topped the list of richest individuals for the seventeenth year in a row. Spanish clothing retailer Amancio Ortega and investor Warren Buffett rounded out the top three. Meanwhile, the combined wealth of the world's billionaires dropped from $7.05 trillion last year.
