Ex-Fremont City Manager Mark Danaj has pleaded guilty to felony misuse of a city credit card. Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price announced Danaj’s plea and conviction last Thursday.
Under the agreement, Danaj will spend 90 days at the Santa Rita Jail, followed by two years of probation. He owes Fremont $316,978 in restitution.
Danaj was forced to resign in 2021 and received a $300,000 severance package. It was later revealed that Danaj still owed the city money on his Calcard, which he did not disclose until after he received the parting pay.
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price said Danaj would not have been held accountable if it weren't for her administration's handling of the case. She stated that the defendant was under-charged and that his representation by the brother of former District Attorney Nancy O'Malley constituted "an obvious conflict of interest."
