Former Los Alamitos mayor Troy Edgar is now the chief financial officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Edgar received confirmation from the senate 62-31 this month more than one year after he was nominated by President Donald Trump.

Before moving to D.C., Edgar was a part of several local boards, including the Southern California Association of Governments, the Orange County Sanitation District, the Orange County Fire Authority, and the State of California Rivers and Mountains Conservancy. Until his recent confirmation, he was serving as Associate Deputy Undersecretary for Management at DHS.

“He has excelled in addressing critical program areas, including Financial Systems Modernization and U.S. Coast Guard Readiness,” according to Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf. “In this role, Troy has proven a tremendous asset in a short period of time. Troy’s experience as a veteran of the United States Navy as well as over 30 years in business with Fortune 500 companies will serve him well as he leads the Department’s finances and acting as a steward of taxpayer dollars.”

In his new role, Edgar will oversee Financial Systems Modernization and U.S. Coast Guard Readiness for a department with 240,000 employees and a budget of $90 billion.
