Fortuna City Manager Mark Wheetley has resigned from his position just one year after accepting the job. He submitted his resignation to the city council Tuesday, one week after his sentencing in a DUI case that occurred in July of last year. The details of his sentencing are available here.
Wheetley’s July arrest, which was covered by City News at the time, was his second DUI in less than two years. A prior drunk driving charge sabotaged his run for county supervisor.
“The city would like to thank Mr. Wheetley for his contributions during his employment and wish him success in his future endeavors,” Mayor Sue Long said in an announcement.
Wheetley called it an honor to have served.
“I’m proud of our accomplishments and appreciate the support from every corner of the entire Fortuna community during my tenure.”
Fortuna Police Chief Bill Dobberstein has been serving as interim city manager since Wheetley was placed on administrative leave last month.
