Former Hawthorne police chief Michael Ishii has taken over as interim chief of the Fountain Valley Police Department. He’s taking over for former chief Matthew Sheppard, retired on July 4 after five years at the helm.
“I’ve come from 32 years of policing in Hawthorne, the last four as a chief, and this is a great opportunity, and it’s an honor to be here with everybody to really keep this police department going,” said Ishii. “It’s a tremendous police department. You have great people working here.”
Mayor Glenn Grandis called Ishii “a class act.”
As a retired annuitant, Ishii cannot work more than 960 hours within a single fiscal year. His contract, which took effect August 5, is valid for one year or until a permanent chief is hired. It calls for hourly compensation of $127.52.
