Using data from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Enterprising Cities Regulatory Climate Index, the S.B.A., and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the site FreeEnterprise.com has taken a look at 10 large cities across the country, giving insight into their small business climate. FreeEnterprise is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s digital platform.
As many are aware, small businesses and startups are crucial for the economy of any city (or state for that matter). This list ranks cities depending on several criteria, including their regulatory environments, as well as statewide small business data.
Focusing on California, the list focuses on two of the state’s most populous cities: Los Angeles and San Francisco. The data shows that of the 10 cities analyzed, Los Angeles rates 8th, and San Francisco 9th. Los Angeles was shown to have a regulatory score of 47.9, while San Francisco had a regulatory score of 41.3. If an entrepreneur wants to start a new business, he would only have to pay $70 in both cities.
The cities were ranked as follows.
- Dallas
- St. Louis
- Raleigh
- Boston
- Atlanta
- Detroit
- Chicago
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco
