The City of Gilroy has selected a temporary replacement for City Administrator Tom Haglund, who is stepping down later this month to head the Tuolumne Utilities District. In a 6 to 1 vote last week, the Gilroy City Council appointed former Morgan Hill City Manager Ed Tewes to the position, with Council Member Roland Velasco dissenting.
Tewes worked in Morgan Hill for 13 years before finally retiring in 2012. He also previously worked for Stanislaus County and held the position of city manager in both Clovis and Modesto as well as being assistant city manager in Long Beach back in the 1980s.
“Ed Tewes will serve Gilroy well and will continue the work of carrying out the City Council’s action agenda and vision for the community,” Haglund said in a statement. “He has very successfully collaborated on many issues of mutual interest to both Gilroy and Morgan Hill over the years.”
Gilroy Mayor Don Hage called Tewes an experienced individual with intimate knowledge of South County issues.
