If you haven’t already done so, make sure you and your employees are aware of the risks and safety precautions when it comes to Zoom video conferencing.
The town of Gilroy is the latest example of how easily a Zoom meeting can go awry. Last week, residents and city officials were subjected to graphic images of child pornography when their virtual town hall was hacked.
“Despite our quickest efforts, immediately shutting the meeting down, this imagery still made it to the public who were viewing and participating in the meeting,” the City explained in a statement. “We extend our deepest apologies to the community and all those affected by this disturbing incident. We will be evaluating security protocols for virtual meetings to prevent this type of incident in the future. As for now, Straight Talk with the City of Gilroy is postponed until further notice.”
So-called Zoom bombing has become a growing trend as more businesses, individuals, and public agencies turn to the web to keep socially connected. Laguna Beach was also recently victimized. Fortunately, in that case, the pornography did not involve minors.
Gilroy has postponed future video conferences until further notice.
