Culver City Police Chief Manuel Cid has been hired to lead the Glendale Police Department.

Cid will assume his new role on January 16. Acting Chief Andrew Jenks will return to his job as Captain of the Support Services Bureau.

Glendale’s last permanent chief, Carl Povilaitis, retired in October after 32 years in law enforcement.

Cid has worked for Culver PD for nearly two decades. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Whittier College and a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Organizational Leadership from National University. He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, LAPD’s West Point Leadership Program, California’s POST Executive Development Course, and the FBI’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

“As a Police Chief and a law enforcement leader, Chief Cid brings a collaborative leadership style to leading an organization, a proactive approach to community-centered policing, an unwavering commitment to professionalism, as well as a strong focus on fostering and preserving partnerships,” according to a press release.

“His background and leadership experience make me feel confident that our city will continue to be one of the safest cities in the nation,” said Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian.

In a statement, Cid said he is “incredibly humbled and honored” to lead the police department in Glendale.

“I consider the opportunity to serve the Glendale community as their Police Chief to be a great privilege and responsibility,” he added, “one that I will approach with unwavering professionalism, humility, and a commitment to work in partnership with our entire community.”

The Culver City Council has appointed Assistant Chief Jason Sims as its Interim Police Chief.
