Gov. Jerry Brown will once again get the opportunity to restore critical vehicle license fees to the cities of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar. SB 817, introduced by Sen. Richard Roth (D-Riverside), was approved in a 39-0 vote by the state Senate Wednesday following a 77-0 vote in favor by the state Assembly.
“I am confident the Governor will recognize that SB 817’s approval not only restores lost funding, but restores an important measure of fairness and equity for our cities,” Roth said.
Riverside County’s newest cities have tried this once before. A previous bill to restore lost funding was vetoed by the governor in 2014. The vehicle license fee revenues were shifted away from the cities three years earlier during tight budget times as part of the AB109 prison realignment process.
