New leadership is coming to the Grover Beach Police Department. The city announced Thursday that Chief John Peters will retire this July after a 30-year career, and that he’ll be succeeded by Jim Munro, who currently serves as a police commander in Grover Beach.
"I am happy I had the opportunity to work in the very supportive community of Grover Beach. I can confidently say that the Police Department has the best team of professionals in its history and Jim Munro will make an excellent Chief of Police," said Chief Peters.
Peters has led the department since 2015. He joined Grover PD in 2006 as a sergeant and worked his way up to commander. Previously, he’d been an officer in Kings.
Munro has been with Grover PD since 2021. He had previously worked for police departments out of state, as well as in Clovis, California.
“I am deeply humbled to have been selected to lead the dedicated men and women of the Grover Beach Police Department, and I pledge to serve our community with integrity, dedication, and a commitment to excellence,” Munro said. “I’m thankful for the guidance and leadership of Chief Peters, and I congratulate him on a very successful career.”
