A sense of personal safety is one of the most important elements -- if not the most important element -- when choosing a place to live. At any moment, one of us can come become a victim of a crime. But we can reduce the chances based on what we do, how we live, and what city we call home.
With that in mind, it’s time to comb through another annual ranking of the safest (and not so safe) cities in California. This one comes from the National Council for Home Safety and Security, which compared cities with a population of more than 10,000 based the latest FBI data on violent and property crimes.
Below is a list of the top 20 safest cities in California, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Of the top 10, three were in Contra Costa County; two were in Orange County; two were in Ventura County; one was in Imperial; one was in Los Anglees; and another was in Santa Clara County.
