Sacramento-based crisis and policy communications firm Hermocillo-Azevedo Strategic Communications LLC (HASC) has welcomed a new, experienced leader to its ranks. Local government veteran John Shirey has signed on as a senior adviser, the firm announced in a Tuesday press release.
As far as municipal government experts go, it doesn’t get much better than John.
With four decades of local government management experience, Shirey served as city manager of Sacramento and Cincinnati, senior executive for Long Beach and Los Angeles County, and legislative counsel for the National League of Cities. He has extensive experience in issue management pertaining to land use, economic and community development, human resources, public safety, budgeting, and public finance.
HASC partner Jose Hermocillo said Shirey would be expanding communications offerings for local government and special district clients.
“He will be a valuable resource and strategic partner.”
Shirey also expressed excitement at the work ahead.
“Having worked with Jose and Jerry on the Golden 1 Center project and other issues, I know they understand the unique challenges faced by local governments. With the deep local and public sector experience of the other HASC associates, we will be able to offer these agencies a full range of strategic counseling services for any issue or crisis.”
