After a three-month search, the Hollister City Council has selected a replacement for ex-city manager David Mirrione. Ana Cortez was appointed to the role on January 5. She is set to begin work on February 2, with an annual base salary of $265,000 plus benefits.
A LinkedIn page shows Cortez has held senior administrative roles in several cities, including Carnation, WA (City Manager 2021-2024); Leavenworth, WA (City Administrator 2020-2021); Helena, MT (City Manager and Acting Chief Financial Officer 2019-2020); Yakima, WA (Assistant City Manager 2017-2019); West Sacramento (Public Works Manager 2015-2017); and Richmond, CA (Community Development Director 2006-2014). She currently works as a consultant.
During public comment, former Hollister mayor Mia Casey expressed concerns about Cortez’s background in labor relations. Councilmember Dolores Morales vouched for the city’s “due diligence” in assessing Cortez's background and qualifications.
“This is the candidate that is going to help our city in all the areas that we need to uplift, but also cares about our employees,” Morales said.
David Mirrione departed in September after receiving a vote of no confidence from the local Firefighters Association. Jim Pia is currently serving as Interim City Manager.
