Independence Day is just around the corner, which means it’s time to bust out the red, white and blue. We’re doing our part with a look at the most American cities in the country, courtesy of WalletHub.com.
The financial advisory site recently tried to determine which cities most and least resemble the U.S. as a whole. They looked at things like demographics, housing stats, job numbers and education levels across the 379 most populated metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S. Then they gave each a resemblance index on a scale of 0 to 100.
You’ll be scrolling through the list for a while before you see anything near the Golden State. Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade finally make an appearance at No. 99 but, for the most part, resembling the good ol’ USofA appears to be a flyover country thing. Who knew?
By contrast, California was featured 5 times in the bottom 20. El Centro came in at No. 371 with an index of 65.43 and San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara ranked 375 with an index of 62.70. Los Angeles (No. 359), San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward (No. 363), and Hanford-Corcoran (No. 365) didn’t do so well either.
Here is a list of the top 10 cities that most resemble the U.S., according to WalletHub:
1. Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson, IN
2. Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN 3. Oklahoma City, OK
4. Columbus, OH
5. Jacksonville, FL
6. Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ
7. Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin, TN
8. Birmingham-Hoover, AL
