The Huntington Beach City Council has formally called for Supervisor Andrew Do’s resignation after his home was raided by the FBI.
The September 3 vote was 6-1, with Pat Burns dissenting. The council’s three Democrats were joined by four Republicans. It was a rare moment of unity among colleagues who typically find themselves divided on big issues.
“This has affected his ability to do his job significantly,” said Mayor Gracey Van Der Mark.
“I’m not saying he’s guilty, we don’t know that. But I do think his residents do deserve representation.”
Surf City is the first legislative body to demand Do step down. It is the largest city in the First District, which Do represents.
The supervisor is accused of helping to funnel millions in taxpayer dollars to a shady nonprofit associated with his daughter Rhiannon. Do’s daughter, along with the organization and several of its employees, then used that money for personal expenses including home purchases, according to a lawsuit filed by the county.
