Forget about flying cars. Some say the future of travel is the hyperloop, and it could soon be coming to an imaginary town near you.
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies says it plans to begin construction on the revolutionary above-ground transportation system next year. It would be built on a five-mile track in a planned community known as Quay Valley, around Interstate 5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The innovative system, first imagined by Elon Musk, could eventually rocket people through tubes at speeds of hundreds of miles per hour—a fantasy we’ve all imagined during our hectic morning commutes, I’m sure.
The current plans appear to be nothing more than a small-scale prototype, but at least it’s a start.
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies plans to raise $100 million for the project through a public offering in the third quarter of this year.
